Bosque Great Blue Heron - Late Afternoon at Bosque del Apache in New Mexico, and the light is fadding. As the last golden light disappears, this Heron flys in and finds a roosting spot for the night. The golden light pushed the color of the reeds into the calm waters of the pond.

California Quail on Bush - It was the last day of filming in Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. We worked our way slowly down the center road. The afternoon light had turned golden. In the last sage brush area we noticed this Quail sitting where he could survey the entire area. He gathered the last heat of the day as we gathered the last image of our trip. Great Horned Owl Posing - I found him on a snag about 30 feet above the ground during a trip to Malheur NWR in Oregon. It took 2 hours until the light was on him. He seemed to sleep at times but was always aware of the eagles that passed by and the ground squirrels that played at the base of the snag. Edition Limit of 300 prints.

Costa's sitting on Twig - He kept returning to the same branches after feeding on local flowers of the high meadow in Cave Creek, Arizona. I set up and filmed him on the branch he favored most. I tried to move around to get more of a profile, but he just kept shifting to present the same angle. Suddenly he was off, chasing another male into the nearby forest. Edition Limit of 100 Prints.

Western Bluebird on Branch - The central lakes of California are wintering grounds for many birds that spend spring in the higher elevations. Habitate around the lakes is good for winter food, and cold night temperature keep most of the people away. Chukar - I spent the afternoon looking all over the back area of Canyonlands Park in Utah for the group of Pinyon Jays that live there. The light was fading as I raced back to my camp. I rounded a turn and saw what I though was Quail until I heard their call. I quickly stopped and filmed until the light failed.
